February 11, 2020

Branicki Palace (formerly also: Palace of Work) - a historic palace in Białystok, one of the best-preserved magnate residences of the Saxon era in the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late baroque style, called the "Versailles of Podlasie", "Versailles of the North" and also "Polish Versailles". The origins of the palace date back to the 16th century. The brick castle in the Gothic-Renaissance style was built by the royal architect Hiob Bretfus, known for the construction of the Lower Castle in Vilnius, the royal court in Knyszyn, and the modernization and expansion of the Old Castle in Kamianets-Podilskyi and the castle in Tykocin. Completely rebuilt in the late Baroque style by three architects: Tylman of Gameren, Jan Zygmunt Deybel and Jakub Fontana. The palace was destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1946–1960. Since the end of World War II, it housed the Medical Academy, now the Medical University of Białystok.
